State of the Game - June 2024
Hello there!
Welcome to another State of the Game! Once again, there isn’t much in the way of screenshots for this update, as most of the recent changes made, while substantial, have been focused on internal systems. Here’s some of what’s been worked on since the last update that we're confident to share.
Main Menu
Work on the new Main Menu has continued – and all old menu systems and features have now been remade in the new main menu, however this is not finished yet as we still want to expand on it further. We haven't shared any screenshots related to it just yet just because we're currently working on several quality of life improvements to make navigating these menus a little easier, so only time will tell when we can share some screenshots or clips related to it.
World Generation and Rendering
Both world generation and rendering have been completely rewritten to both make the game run significantly faster, and to make it so world generation no longer requires hardcoded systems, which will allow add-ons to make use of these data-driven systems in the future.
Also we think we unintentionally added multi-dimension support but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Structure Systems
We have started on structure system fixes, which will be used later in 1.1’s development to begin implementing new and improved structures. Stay tuned in our following monthly updates to learn more about what some of these structures could be!
Gameplay Content
Internally, we’ve finally reached the point where core systems are once again functional and stable! This includes data-driven crafting recipes and biome generation, in addition to an exciting new feature which is being worked on for 1.1 – the Grimoire. While we won’t go into detail on this new feature just yet, I’m sure you can take a good guess at what it may be.
Furthermore, you can expect to see the eventual introduction of major new features such as cave biomes and bosses in the future.
New Release Date
We’ve previously announced plans to delay this update slightly further to our Discord server, due to the scope of this update and issues piling up both in real life and workflow issues that prevents this update from being complete by the original date – but we’re sure you’ll love it when it arrives this October!
As always, to stay updated with the latest news, development livestreams, and more, over on our Discord Server!
Once again, thank you for following and trying out Phantasia over the previous months! We’re looking forward to getting these new features and improvements in your hands, so be ready to check out this upcoming update with improved performance, overhauled menus and new structures later this year! As always, we’ll be seeing you again next month for another State of the Game, so stay tuned!
See you this October :)
You thought you were reading an update from Zhen, didn’t you? You’re wrong! This State of the Game is brought to you by your new Gameplay Designer, Rebel459.
